DMW Boss, Davido Is Deeply Confused & Needs Good Counsel.

It’s January 2017 and it looks like David Adeleke is deeply confused and in dire need of good counsel as soon as possible.

Davido maybe at crossroads at this point of his music career. Well, let’s not write him off yet as he is still one of the top 5 biggest music acts in Africa. But how soon before the cookie twirls and crumbles before we all get to see the damage already perpetuated.
The first month of the year is barely out and OBO is miss firing.

Recently there was a report Davido fired his manager Kamal Ajiboye, as he lamented his frustration stemming from his chase of international fame. While that action cannot be summarized as being either good or bad, his signing of a new act Yonda to DMW is ill-timed and looks like a bad decision.
Why would signing Yonda to DMW be such a bad idea? First of all, how many acts are currently housed under DMW? Let’s count them; Mayorkun, Dremo, Ichaba, Danagog, Lola Rae and not forgetting Dammy Krane who is allegedly on a partnership deal with the music imprint. That brings the total number of artistes on the label up to seven (7).

nother question to be sincerely answered is this. Are those artistes breaking new grounds? Apart from Mayorkun who recorded a hit with Eleko and Dremo who blew with his Panda freestyle “Fela” none of the other artistes are doing anything worthy of applause. Never mind Lola Rae and Dammy Krane; both artistes are well known prior to signing with DMW. Davido is probably biting more than he can chew. His random signing of artistes to his DMW fold seems like a gamble and misfiring.

OBO ought to know he has to groom his acts to a point of near self independence. Something like what Olamide was able to achieve with Lil Kesh and Adekunle Gold. On the hand, he is yet to fully cash out on all the artistes he has so far brought on board, yet he is stretching out for more.  It’s music business therefore Davido isn’t probably running a charity organization with his DMW record label. So why sign new acts when older acts on the label have not been fully actualized?  A better option would be ensuring the already signed acts deliver hit records, go for better shows and bring in more money other than adding more to his full plate.

Davido is at a very sensitive point in his music career with an option to make or mare his career. He seriously needs to get his act together as an artiste. He isn’t happy with Sony Music so far from his social media rants. That alone is enough warning to get back to basics. He would be better off if he signed a song writer for himself. Davido needs a convincing return to the game for his name and prestige.
At this point the “Gbagbe Oshi” crooner is in dire need of good career counsel, before he heads too far in the wrong direction. The deal is done and probably can’t be reversed now his focus should be on getting the best out of his boys and first lady. So we won’t hear news about one artiste or the other in DMW complaining how the label hasn’t done enough for him, or news of an altercation between the label management and an artiste.
Signing Yonda is much more work for Davido and he seems ill-prepared for it.
