The crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State deepened on Monday, 10 November, 2014, as another violence erupted at the party secretariat along Queen Elizabeth Road, Ibadan.
According to a report published by Leadership newspaper online, PDP’s publicity secretary in Oyo State, Alhaji Kehinde Salawu, barely escaped being killed when political thugs stormed the party’s secretariat.
While speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, Salawu attributed his safety to God’s mercy, adding that he least expected his ordeal from his people.
The image maker stated that he has made a formal report to the appropriate quarters on the violence but declined to link his attack to the boys and policemen from any of the camps among the governorship aspirants.
Also commenting on the crisis, a PDP chieftain, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeniyan, said he suspected the supporters of one of the governorship aspirants in the state, Oluseyi Makinde, in the violence.
Reacting to the allegation, Makinde’s media aide, Azeez Akeem, described the allegation as a blackmail against his boss.
It was gathered that Olopoenia had petitioned the state commissioner of police, Kola Sodipo, to call to order the police entourage attached to Makinde.
Olopoenia alleged that the policemen attached to Makinde, along with his personal assistant, Mr Seye Famojuro were going about threatening and harassing PDP members and the public.
The PDP chieftain wondered why eight policemen should be attached to an ordinary governorship aspirant in the state, thereby causing problems and harassments to the party members.
